Auditions, Veteran’s Day

Major Concepts:

-Auditioning for sectional placement

-Work on repertoire for Veteran’s Day Concert and understanding musical terms in each piece

-Performing Veteran’s Day program.

Unit Rationale: Through performing music, students are able to develop confidence, self-discipline and the ability to work with others.[1] Reading music promotes high lever thinking skills and gives students skills to explore music both independently and with others.[2] Listening to, analyzing, and evaluating music are fundamental building blocks of musical learning.[3]

            Standards:

                        National Standards Used:

Standard One: Singing alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music   

Standard Five: Reading and notating music

Standard Six: Listening to, analyzing and describing music

Unit Objectives

As a result of this unit students wi

-perform a Veteran’s Day selection memorized.

-prepare music for a sectional audition.

-demonstrate proper audition techniques and procedures

-demonstrate an understanding of terminology used in repertoire

Unit Assessment:  

  • Assessment during this unit will be based on a multitude of things. The culminating performance for this grading period will be the goal students should strive towards.
  • Because of this, students will be held responsible for knowing the following:

-their individual parts

-attending the rehearsals

-performing to their very best

-attending scheduled lesson.

  • Assessment will also be based on a short written assignment that includes various terms and aspects of music found in the repertoire being studied.
  • Assessment will be given on a song clip recorded by the student for a sectional placement.
  • Participation, attentiveness, proper rehearsal and concert behavior are also areas that will be observed and assessed.
